Course Description
This 2-year part time programme (5M2102) facilitates the learner to explore business subject areas, with emphasis on Medical Secretarial modules. The award will equip the learner with the knowledge, skills and competence to perform audio transcription tasks, examine a range of medical terminology and legal principles to enable the learner to appreciate the role of law in a range of vocational context and within their personal lives.

Progression
On successful completion of this Programme, learners may progress to the QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Business Management. The QQI Level 5 award facilitates entry, on a competitive basis, to a Higher Certificate in Business Studies in the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), Athlone. Learners may also apply to other third-level institutions under the Higher Education Links Scheme, or as a mature learner. The programme will enhance opportunities in securing an apprenticeship in Financial Services, Accounting Technician, or Insurance Practitioner.

Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate or equivalent standard of education. Basic computer experience desirable. Learners will be subject to an online assessment.
CAREER OPTIONS
Holders of a QQI Level 5 Business Studies Certificate may seek employment in a clerical capacity in a wide range of business sectors including healthcare and business settings.
